Why Your Canine Needs a Dog Bed

Why Your Dog Needs a Bed

You enjoy a good night’s sleep and so does your pooch. Most dogs sleep from 12 to 18 hours per day depending on their age. The animal enjoys a safe, supportive, and soft place to sleep.

Your dog probably wants to sleep with you every night and many owners enjoy having their furry buddy snoozing beside them. Even if you are not in bed, your dog might enjoy sleeping on your mattress. However, giving your pooch their own bed is a great option to encourage the canine to sleep on the floor or in another room of the home.

Learn Why You Should Invest in a Dog Bed

Dog beds are designed to provide a save, supportive and soft resting place for the animal. When shopping for a dog bed, you’ll discover that there are a lot of features  that you might want to consider.

Below are a few features to consider when picking out an obedient dog bed.

Joint Support

As a dog ages, they often develop inflammation of the joints and hip dysplasia. A supportive dog bed eases the dog’s body’s pressure points which can help with aging problems. Choose a bed with interlocking fill material which provides support for the joints and helps keep the animal pain-free while napping.

Easy to Clean

Choose a pet bed made of durable material that is easy to clean. Ideally, it should have a removable cover so you can wash it weekly. The entire bed should be machine washable and dryable which is especially important if you’re pooch is older or a puppy because it might wet the bed by accident.

Temperature Regulation

Dogs usually curl up for warmth so pick a dog bed with side ridges that are soft and thick to embrace the dog’s body.

Padding Thickness

How thick or thin should the dog be? Squeeze the bed with your fingers. If your fingers touch, then the material is too thin, and your dog’s joints will sink to the floor when your furry friend lays on the floor. Make sure that the padding material is thick enough to provide comfort and support.

Types of Dog Beds

When shopping for a dog bed, you’ll encounter a wide assortment of shoes, sizes, and styles. Below are a few popular types of dog beds:

  • Orthopedic Dog Beds: A senior dog with hip or joint problems will definitely enjoy a supportive orthopedic dog bed.
  • Heated Dog Bed: During the winter months, a heated dog bed is very much appreciated by senior or short-haired canines. Electric dog beds can carry some risk, so you won’t want to purchase one if your pup is a chewer. However, for older dogs, an electric bed is often ideal.
  • Memory Foam: Memory foam dog beds have become immensely popular in recent years. The foam is great for arthritic canines. The foam prevents pressure sores, calluses, and hygromas. Memory foam beds are wonderfully durable and retain their shape nicely.
  • Crate Bed: Many dogs adore their crates because they are natural den animals so the enclosure gives them a feeling of added security. You can purchase a crate that fits perfectly inside of the dog crate to provide maximum comfort to the pooch.

All dogs can benefit from having a bed of their own. The bed acts as their own private space where they can relax and nap undisturbed.

Tried to find a bed in that soft material in your advertisement but when I searched for it, just got in a circle of why beds are important and even though it shows 14 beds were available; none showed up.
